Beyond the Family Tree Vol. II
At Beyond the Family Tree Vol. II, Simpan hosted a private forum exploring family office strategies, multigenerational wealth, and legacy investing with David Lo.
This week, we hosted Beyond the Family Tree Vol. II — a private, closed-door gathering at ara Contemporary for our Family Office and Private Wealth clients. The forum took place amidst the evocative works of Iwan Effendi.
We had the privilege of hearing from David Lo, CEO of Mondial Global Investments and a member of the Mondial Jewelry family, as he shared the story of his family’s journey in building a multigenerational business — now in its third generation.
David also took us through the path to establishing their family office: the key conversations he had with family members, how he built trust, and how he ultimately shaped the family office’s structure and objectives. We also explored the family's investment philosophy and how they think about stewardship, growth, and legacy.
Here are a few key takeaways from the conversation:
We had the opportunity to learn how the business family has evolved, with each generation contributing in unique ways. One standout insight was the importance of “professionalizing the family, and familiarizing the professional business.”
The discussion also explored the concept of a Family Office — including its objectives, legal structures, jurisdictions, governance models, and how it operates in practice.
Another key insight was that each family has its own investment philosophy. Many approach investing based on their comfort level and view their investments as an extension of their cash reserves — a flexible and long-term tool for wealth preservation.
We're also grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with ara Contemporary — an art space whose values resonate with our own. Ara, derived from Sanskrit, speaks to shelter, adaptability, and care for others — principles that echo our mission at Simpan: to be a trusted, thoughtful investment partner offering a sense of security through transparent investment guidance.
Thank you to everyone who joined and contributed to this meaningful conversation. We look forward to hosting Vol III.
